Adobe Shockwave player now runs natively on Intel Macs. Before, you had to open Safari, or any web browser, in Rosetta, but not anymore with version 11. THIS IS AN IMPORTANT UPDATE. Click here to download the new Adobe Shockwave Player.
I’ll be back to write more stuff on my blog. I just ran out of topics. I’ve been busy too. Get ready for the blog about hurricanes, which is coming at the end of the month.
Backing up can be done many ways. You can back up with an external storage device or you can use optical discs. It really depends on how much data you have on your computer.
There are two kinds of external storage devices. There are flash drives and there are external hard drives. You should use a flash drive if you have hardly any files on your computer. This is for people who rarely use a computer. The cost of flash drives varies. They can range from $5 to $100 or more. The storage can range from 64 megabytes to 8 gigabytes.
External hard drives are the most popular way to backup data. It’s much faster than optical discs. This is for people who have a whole lot of data on their computers. Hard drives come with any of these ports: USB is the most popular, which transfer speeds at 480 Mb/s (Megabits per second) or 60 MB/s (Megabytes per second). Also there’s FireWire 400 and 800, which is more popular with Macs. Finally, there’s the rare eSATA, which transfer data at a much higher rate. The cost can range from $50 to thousands of dollars. The storage space can go up to a terabyte or more. There are many software programs that back up your stuff automatically. For example: Time Machine with Mac OS Leopard. It backs up your whole computer to any hard drive. You can restore your Mac back to where it was before your hard drive failed.
Lastly, there are optical discs: CDs and DVDs. If you are backing up I would suggest using DVDs. They hold 4.7 GB. CDs only hold 700 MB. This is good if you can’t afford an external hard drive. This is the slowest way to backup. The more stuff you put on a disc, the longer it will take to burn. Before you back up to a DVD, I suggest making a checklist of what you should backup, just in case you forget to backup something.
Backing up is one the most important thing you should ever do if you have a computer. You never know when your hard drive is going to fail on you. If you never back up and your hard drive dies on you, all of your precious files will disappear. Your memorable photos, important documents, movies of your favorite vacation, childhood memories, etc. will just disappear and will never come back. No one wants that to happen. Losing your files is just like losing a friend or family member. Just think about that.
When my hard drive failed, I was working on a Keynote project for Spanish. It was backed up on my flash drive. All of a sudden, I got this . This is what you get when you and application doesn’t respond. In my case, the whole computer didn’t respond. I also heard clicking noises where my hard drive was. Then I knew that it was hard drive failure. It’s a good thing I backed up several weeks ago and had my project on my flash drive. A few days later we took it back to the Apple store. It took them several days to replace the hard drive. For my project, I used my cousin’s laptop. It took me a while trying to get back to normal from starting over.
There are several types of backing up. I will post the different ways soon. Stay tuned.
I got my first laptop in Spring of 2005. It was a PC. I just couldn’t wait until I got it. Back then, all I wanted was a laptop. I really didn’t care what I kind it was. I was very satisfied with it for a couple months. As the months went by, I started to have problems with my laptop. I started to get a lot of error messages. It was so annoying. I tried making movies with it, but it kept freezing up on me. Also, the computer was so slow, it only had 1/2 GB of RAM. I became very impatient with it. One time, it used to freeze up on me a lot, so I had to restart it every time it did that. Also, the screen had red, green, and blue lines on some parts of it too. This computer was a waste of $999. I couldn’t take it anymore.
Around the end of 2005 into early 2006, I started to look at the Apple PowerBook G4. I thought they were pretty interesting computers. I was mainly looking at the $1999, 15-inch PowerBook. I realized how our Macs at school last a long time. So I assumed Macs were good computers. I used to daydream about having a Mac computer all the time.
My interest in PowerBooks slowly diminished as the MacBook Pros came out. The MacBook Pros were the first Macs to have an Intel processor. They used to have PowerPC Processors in the past years. In Spring 2006, when the MacBook came out, I started to go to the Apple Store more often. I always went to play on the MacBook Pros. I tried to persuade my mom to get one, but she said it was too much money. We asked someone for more information about the MacBook Pro. He said that you are better off with a MacBook. He said to us, “The MacBook is actually faster than the MacBook Pro.” That was a lie, they had the same processor speed. So, a couple months later, we got a MacBook. Of course, I got the more expensive one, which was the black one. It cost $1499 at starting price. I was so excited about it. I could actually do stuff on it, such as make movies.
I still have the same computer to this day. I’ve done many things on it that I couldn’t do on that other piece of junk. Two weeks before we got the Macbook, that piece of junk died. Nothing would work anymore. The only problems I had with my MacBook were: the power cord broke, and the hard drive failed and died. Good thing I backed up. Speaking of backing up, I will post important backup information in a few days.
This is one of many videos I’ve made. I wanted to make this video because, my 8th grade English teacher made one several years ago. So, I decided I wanted to make one too. It took me about a week to complete this video. I would recommend this video to history teachers, because it has a lot of events from the past.
You can find this video and others that I’ve made on my Youtube page. Just click here.
This week i would like to show you my flyer I made. I made this flyer in a class called Graphic Communications. I used a software called Adobe Illustrator. Click here if you want more info on Adobe Illustrator. This was my semester exam for that class. My grade was an “A”. If you click the picture, you can download it for yourself. Stay tuned for more artwork in the upcoming days.
